There are all kinds of specific things He may be asking you to do. Are you going to listen to God's voice or the myriad of voices telling you that you can't do it?

Or… maybe He hasn't told you any of these things – because- you're not listening to Him at all. Maybe… you haven't been brought to your lowest place yet. Listen to Him- before that's necessary.

So,one,God places you in “impossible” situations,and two,people will discourage Godly wisdom and encourage worldly wisdom. Finally,God will provide a redeemer.

God Will Provide a Redeemer.

Let's read the rest of the story.

“Then David said to the Philistine,“You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin,but I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts,the God of the armies of Israel,whom you have defied. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hand,and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth,that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,and that all this assembly may know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the LORD's,and he will give you into our hand.” When the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David,David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone and slung it and struck the Philistine on his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead,and he fell on his face to the ground. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone,and struck the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in the hand of David. The Israelites were in their valley of the shadow of death,yet they did fear evil. Conventional wisdom said that no one could go up against the giant. All was lost. Out of nowhere,David came to redeem them. He was the most unexpected of all. No one would have been surprised if one of the soldiers had come forward to fight. But God had other plans. If one of the soldiers had come forward,he could have taken all of the credit for victory. But,not David. It was against all odds that David could defeat that giant. We've heard it called a God thing. No way it could be anything but God.

The first people to pay tribute to Him were shepherds. Those shepherds sure seem to have a special place in God's heart,don't they?

So just when you think there's no way out of your troubles,there's Jesus. He's offering to redeem you,just like David for Israel did so long ago.

I'm not saying that by following Him,all your troubles go away. There are many examples of Christians suffering in the New Testament. But Jesus says,“Take my yoke upon you,and learn from me,for I am gentle and lowly in heart,and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy,and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:29–30 ESV)

When you follow Jesus,you get a new view on life. You understand what James meant when he said that we “are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.” (James 4:14 ESV) Your time here is limited. You need to use it listening to and following your shepherd's voice.

Steve Furtick,in his book “Sun Stand Still” describes a game he plays with his son at the beach. They go out into the surf just far enough that the still water is at his son's chest. When a wave comes,he raises his son up out of the water by both arms. The closer to getting covered,the closer to getting water up his nose,the better. The boy screams at the top of his lungs,“I'm the wave jumper!” but the truth is Daddy is the wave jumper. His son is probably more like the “hand holder.” His son's task is to keep reaching upward and trust that his father will lift him high above it.

Furtick says that this “illustrates one of the most common patterns in Scripture:As the big waves roll toward us,God promises to do the heavy lifting. He only requires that we have the faith to wade in as deep as he leads and keep reaching up to him.” 2

Will you do that? Will you trust God that even though you may be at a low place,in a seemingly impossible situation,even though others may be discouraging you,will you trust that God is the “wave jumper?” raise your hands to Him and say,I trust you,lift me out of this,and give Him all the glory?
